What Exactly is Delta-8?

With the use of hemp and cannabis finally becoming increasingly normalized across the US, the last few years have seen the country become whipped up into a frenzy of excitement about this new selection of awesome products at our disposal. Many are enthusiastic about it but not everyone is clear on the science behind hemp cultivation and the creation of CBD products. With this newfound intrigue comes a yearning to learn, which in turn brings with it a number of questions. One of the most popular questions being: “What is delta-8?”. (In fact, over 30,000 Americans Google this question EVERY MONTH!)

No matter where you live in the US, you’ve probably heard this question being thrown around all over the place. From California to Connecticut, delta-8 CBD products are being offered from near enough every vape shop, convenience store and gas station in sight. Everybody is talking about it, yet many aren’t even aware of what it is. And with that comes a sh*t load more questions.

Is it dangerous? Nope.

Is it legal? Kinda depends where you are...

Is it found in our full-spectrum CBD products? Yeah!

And the list goes on… But rather than answer an endless stream of questions we thought a detailed description of what delta-8 is and what it can provide would help people make their own minds up on the matter. So here it is...

What is delta-8?

What Is Delta-8 - Bubba Kush LeafBrace yourself, we’re about to get scientific. Delta-8-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) is a chemical compound that is found in hemp and cannabis plants. As a psychoactive compound, it does cause users to become “high”. However, it isn’t as strong as the delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol compound found in the cannabis sativa plant. This in turn has led to some people referring to delta-8 as a “diet” alternative to delta-9 (including yours truly from time to time).
The reason that the effects aren’t as potent is due to the fact that the chemical does not stay bound to the brain's CB receptors for as long. Essentially it gives you a nice chilled, euphoric experience without the potential threat of becoming completely comatose or freaking out that can come with delta-9 THC.

What are the effects of delta-8?

As previously mentioned, delta-8 causes psychoactive effects in the same manner as regular old THC, but with far less dramatic consequences. While it will make you feel “high”, it is a much milder sensation that won’t leave you slumped on your sofa watching cartoons for hours on end. These effects not only make delta-8 products more appealing for recreational use, but also harness properties that are known to be beneficial for your health.

Whatever your hemp-derived weapon of choice - whether it be oils, vapes, edibles or straight up hand-picked, Oregon-grown live resin tinctures (ok, we’re being a little biased here) - products containing CBD and delta-8 have been shown to improve not only physical health but mental health too.

Some of these benefits include:

  • Boosting mental health. Delta-8 is used by many people suffering from mental health conditions such as anxiety, paranoia and depression. Some argue that it even increases the effectiveness of their medicine.
  • Calming nausea. Delta-8 is used by many people prone to feeling nauseous to help reduce or prevent the unwelcome sensation. This also makes it popular among those going through cancer treatment.
  • Boosting appetite. Reduced appetite can be a symptom of any number of ailments or conditions. Delta-8 helps to combat this. Who would have thought that having the munchies would be seen as medically beneficial, eh?
  • Easing pain relief. While this is also a feature of CBD products, when working in unison with delta-8 in full-spectrum products (just like the ones we produce) the effects are improved.

So there it is. Your guide to delta-8 and the effects that it can provide for you. Now next time someone asks you “What is delta-8?” you’ll be fully equipped to give them all the info that they are after.
